Method Section “Before” Version

Method Section “Before” Version
My method for researching the positive and negative effects social media has on society is seemingly simple and I hope it proves to flow as smoothly as I plan.

I will start by creating a twitter poll asking if people have ever taken a break from Social Media. The answer choices will say “yes, (Direct Message me and tell me about it” and “No”.
I will look at the totals of the polls and analyze the justification from those that message me.
I will organize the DMs by category of responses and then do research on each of those categories. I am expecting to have a variety of responses but the most common will have something to do with: time consumption, them not seeing a point to having social media on their phones at all times, or it is having a negative impact on their self-esteem.

I would like to use twitter and Facebook to gather some of my research. I hope to find tweets that reflective both positive and negative impacts of social media, specifically threads with a lot of attention and responses. On Facebook I am hoping to find similar or create a poll or a post that can get a conversation going. Facebook may be better assuming I can get people my age to participate in the conversation as I have Facebook friends anywhere from their late 70s to early teens, so I can get a lot of input from a more diverse age range.

I will also look into scholarly articles that discuss both pros and cons to social media and how it makes people feel.
