Literature Review

Literature Review What is the first thing you do in the morning? After opening your eyes, you probably roll over and snooze your alarm. I’m assuming you use your smart phone as your alarm clock each morning. Even if not, I’m sure after shutting off that alarm the next thing you do is unlock your phone, see if you missed any texts in the night, check your email, and then scroll through social media until you realize you are now running 20 minutes late for work or class. I am analyzing the amount of time spent on social media and the affects it can have on society and what benefits taking a break, or removing yourself from social media completely, can have on an individual. To better understand this, I have reached out to my twitter followers and my Facebook friends to seek those that have taken a break from any social media cites. Data Post 2: Research Update

For my research I have reached out to my twitter followers and my Facebook friends to seek those that have taken a break from any social media cites. Taking data from users of twitter and Facebook gave me a better variety of participants as my twitter is primarily composed of people in their 20s and my Facebook friends list gave me the opportunity to reach out to former teachers, family friends, my grandmas friends, so I had a lot of diversity. I found that adults took a break to better focus on face to face interactions while the people in their 20s took breaks to focus more on school while some took a break due to cyber-bullying and comments from others. Some informed me that they didn't take a break but combed through their friends list and added filters to what they could and couldn't see in their feed.I think this helps show how invested we are in social media but allowing yourself to take that step and control your friends list shows that we still have a self control ...

Kind of a project update

For my research project I have decided to do more research into taking breaks from social media... why people do so and the benefits it brings, along with the negative effects social media may have had that caused the break. Social Media is a huge resource to find people that have taken a break for a short period of time but it is nearly impossible to use social media to find people that have disconnected completely. BUT! I was through conversation was put in contact with someone who has quit facebook and will never return. I wanted to share her thoughts with you- She had taken time off before she quit completely, mostly during the election season, which I don't think was an uncommon thing to do. But at the beginning of the year she realized, so little of her friends list had interacted with her on facebook in the past 5 years, even less had spoken to her in person and very very few had a relationship with her where they came to her house. My immediate thought was maybe she jus...

#MotivationalMonday Marketing... and #MotivationalMonday Marketing Mistakes

#MotivationalMonday Marketing... and #MotivationalMonday Marketing Mistakes   Happy #MotivationalMonday *cringes*.  I just spent what feels like days combing through an abundance of tweets that used this hashtag. While most tweets I viewed made me cringe or roll my eyes, some provided a bit of positivity to my Monday. In my opinion this hashtag is meant to give encouragement to users at the beginning of the week. For the purpose of my analysis I selected tweets from companies and business that used this hashtag for promotional opportunities. I hope some of you laugh at this as much as I did. I don't laugh because they are comical but because they are so far off base from being motivational or were previously composed tweets with a few word changes to make it work for #MotivationalMonday. Although, I did provide a few tweets that seemed to do a good job at both marketing and motivating viewers. I feel like the application of this hashtag when you aren't actually trying...
